Liberty & Lights

Each summer, the Girard community gathers for one of its most exciting traditions — Liberty & Lights, the annual Independence Day Celebration held every July 1st at the Crawford County Fairgrounds. This event brings together friends, families, and visitors for an unforgettable evening of food, fun, and fireworks as we celebrate our nation’s birthday and community pride.

The fairgrounds come alive with local vendors, patriotic activities, and festive fun for all ages. Guests can enjoy delicious food, shop from unique local businesses, and experience the joy and excitement that fills the air leading up to the spectacular fireworks show.

A few of the day’s favorite traditions include the Wutke Watermelon Feed, a crowd favorite that captures the spirit of summer, and the always-entertaining Frankmania, which brings smiles and laughter to everyone who attends. From kids waving flags to families enjoying the music and community spirit, Liberty & Lights is a true hometown celebration.

The evening concludes with a dazzling fireworks display, lighting up the sky over Girard in red, white, and blue — a perfect ending to a day of celebration, togetherness, and small-town pride.
